Asantehene's Courts Chief Registrar's Office

The Chief Registrar's Office was responsible for the administration of justice and responsible for the proper administration of Asantehene's Courts A, B, C and D. It co-ordinated the activities of other native and area courts within the Ashanti . The office of the Chief Court Registrar was transferred to the Kumasi Municipal Council to man the Municipal Courts.

The records of the Asantehene's Court Chief Registrar's Office are identified as MAG 7 and it has six classes of records. The earliest records date 1944.

The records contain matters relating native and area courts; judgements and rulings; court returns, court inspection reports, minutes of meetings, and personal records.

About Us

The Manhyia Records Office (now Manhyia Archives) was established as part of the Ashanti Research Project. The Ashanti Research Project was conceived by the Institute of African Studies , University of Ghana in 1962. The project was launched in May 1963 at the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi by the Institute of African Studies .
